I've decided that crafting and heat waves don't mix. I am now grumpy and my hands are all sculpey-residue covered and I don't have anything to show for it. Bitch moan complain.

So, things to remember should it happen again... curtains for the windows... lemonade at the ready. :)

I will likely be sewing for my portion of craft day from here on in, at least for a while, as I need to make my costume for the Spiral Dance. redstreets and I went and bought fabric yesterday at the Berryessa Flea Market, and I'm anxious to get it done so that I will have time to finesse it, rather than waiting until the very last minute.

I was thinking of making the bodice out of plain black velvet and then stamping various designs on it... making it a craft in and of itself. Or maybe doing some beading. I'm not totally sure.. I think I'm going to work on the design this week if I can find the time.

Anyway, thank you all for coming today, and thanks to Matt for noodling and keeping us entertained.. that was really nice.

Also, I'm sorry to say that the juice squeezes are gone... in the heat they got super fragile, and when I bumped the table they all knocked against each other and exploded. Not a giant loss except for the shard of glass that lodged itself in my ankle. *sigh*

Hey Y'all!

Save me from myself! Come over and craft... today I'll be out there from 12-7 or so. I bought some grapes at the Berryessa Farmers Market yesterday, but other than that I don't have any comestibles, so if you want munchies, please bring them! I have some soda, still, but not a whole heck of a lot.

If you need directions or want to call, my number is (650) 773-3744.

Why did you choose the name Rusty Fish Studios?
From one (Wacky) fish to others I was just curious about the significance.
And I am hoping to spend a day crafting with you lovely ladies in February!
See you then!

Some of the pictures taken last Sunday turned out fairly decent. Actually, the detail this camera gets is nigh on amazing. The only question is the photog's ability to leverage this into great pictures. It'll happen, but for now I'd like to share what I have. The only difficulty is no webhosting... anyone know where I could find some cheap? Gwynne, I looked all around LJ's FAQs and other areas; could not find any mention of photo hosting.

As soon as I find a way, I will share.

I just scored an almost brand new spiffy toaster oven from Goodwill... yay! No more heating up the whole house and waiting and worrying about overbaking.

I hope it works!

I will be doing mostly scupley stuff on Sunday, as I'm extremely stoked about the new techniques. Anyone else have anything special planned?

What kind of paint goes well on leather? I've got this nice shiny new black leather guitar-strap, see, and it's staring at me like a blank canvas... needs a design that won't crack or peel.

Also, I *do* work in a bookstore. If there are specific craftybooks that folks want me to keep an eye out for, drop a post in this group.

All things going as planned I and my trusty guitar Auberon will be noodling in the corner come Sunday.

Thea told me that there was a Japanese technique that she couldn't remember the name of but was really cool... I went to Michael's today (to feed my habit) and I spent a half hour in the Scupley aisle reading all the polymer clay books, including one that was *incredible* and detailed the Mokume Gane technique. It is INCREDIBLY beautiful, and an amazing way for us to use all my rubber stamps along with the clays. I can't wait to start.. in fact, I may run out there right now and try it.. I'm just that excited.

It also talked more about the transfer technique, and I've got some great ideas for projects.

Also, Stacy said she'd be donating a pasta maker to our studio as soon as she can get to Cost Plus. She was stoked that there is a space for her to work, and she saw how excited we all were by it. :)

Edit: I think we should call it Scupley from now on. I laughed out loud.

Beads and other projects [Aug. 30th, 2004|05:44 pm]

So, after searching and searching and turning up nothing, I've come to the conclusion that the beadwork dreamcatcher instructions I've been using have disappeared from the internet. I still have the printout (though I'm missing the first page, but that was mostly a picture of a completed dreamcatcher and introduction - all the actual instructions, I have) and I'd be happy to make copies for anyone who'd be interesting in trying it out. I've also made several of them, so I can easily demonstrate the technique (which is actually fairly straightforward anyway). In my search, however, I found instructions for Spinster's Dreamcatcher, which I think looks really cool, especially since I'm into the whole spider thing, and I think I'd like to try making one sometime.

I also found some instructions for a beadwork bottle (actually, a bottle enrobed in peyote stitch beads), and I have a book that has some ideas that could be applied to doing that kind of project. I'm planning to get some Ty Nant bottles (it's fancy spring water that comes in beautiful blue or red bottles, depending on whether it's carbonated or still water) and cover them with some kind of bead netting.

And finally, I also found some fairly good instructions for constructing a simple bead loom. This one I'm definitely going to do, but probably in a couple of weeks. For now, I've plenty of other projects I'd like to work on. But I'll give you a heads up as to when I'm going to do it in case anyone else is interested and we can work through it together. I will probably want to decorate mine somehow, but I need to figure out how and what would be appropriate. I do know it needs to be something that won't rub off while I'm working the bead loom. *grin*

door curtain plan [Aug. 30th, 2004|02:10 am]

[music |Joelle singing oddly in the kitchen]

some day I shall live in New York City. so I'm going to make one of those beaded curtains for a door someplace in my dorm (then home) or perhaps a curtain to slightly section off a room, or some such, perhaps a kitchen. but it shan't be beaded. indeed rather than beads it shall be Metro Cards. woot. I went to France this summer, so I have a bunch of Parisian Metro Cards which are wee and purple, so those could go up too, but we'll see.
I'm just wondering what to use to attach the cards, without letting them twirl round. perhaps two strings per card, perhaps attached by hole punch. we shall see. any suggestions (or nice clean Metro Card collecting volunteers) welcome!!!

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the crafting community. I'm pretty tired, after a long hard day of crafting with y'all, but I'll just say that damn I'm stoked. I've created this community so that we can have a place to post our plans and our successes and anything we want.
