Halloween Crafting [Oct. 29th, 2004|04:21 pm]
Craft Mavens, Arteests and Gamer Dorks

I almost forgot. For those who are so inclined, we will be crafting at Rusty Fish Studio on Sunday, Halloween. (Costumes not expected, since bohemian artist is a look all its own.) Tentatively we may go hunting branches to make dreamcatchers, otherwise it will be random crafts, possibly with an emphasis on holiday presents. Being a holiday, I'm planning to get there before 1, and probably will go home by 5, unless we're really wrapped up in things. I hope to see folks there, and anyone who has other plans, may they be fun and spooky, and full of chocolate.

Any ideas on where to get pretty embroidery string, beads and charms?

I know the type of bookmark you're thinking of. I did something similar only with very narrow ribbon, because ordinary embroidery floss might ravel. You can try any of the local bead shops and see if they have the right kind of floss, though. Global Beads is pricey, but really the only local place I can think of that has a wide selection of charms and beads. I have a ton of random beads and charms you can look through, and then I can tell you where to get more of whatever you liked, since I've collected them randomly from all over. The scrapbooking fad means there are a lot of really nice charms out there, you just have to wait for the right sale. I get bulk cheap beads through Oriental Trading Company, but it depends on what look you are going for. Don't buy anything yet, except maybe the floss, and we can talk on Sunday about how you want to do them.
